As is often the case with Chinese Medicine practitioners, my passion for natural healing therapies came from my own experience. As a teen, I suffered from terrible stomach pains and found nothing that helped. Feeling progressively worse, I sought other solutions - and my parents (2 medical doctors and 2 nurses), while skeptical of my seeking  acupuncture, could also see the value in a different approach. My initial treatments left me feeling so much better and I became completely intrigued by acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

From that point on I’ve incorporated acupuncture and herbs into my own health care routine, along with conventional western medicine. Later I discovered that East Asian Medicine was effective at preventive health - keeping us out of the doctor's office unless there is an emergency. Growing up in a family surrounded by medical talk, I knew that I wanted to go into medicine early on. But it was also clear that I was on a more holistic path, wanting to provide natural health solutions for people of all ages that would keep people healthy, rather than simply administering sick care.

Today my mission is to coach and empower patients with knowledge about their body's abilities to heal with simple tweaks they can make with their diet and lifestyle, along with natural solutions with botanical medicine and gentle acupuncture. I see myself as a medical detective, with each patient presenting a constellation of symptoms that fall into Chinese Medicine's diagnosis pattern, which relates them to common root causes. Treating the root of health issues instead of chasing symptoms can offer sustainable transformation to a balanced state of health and well-being.

While my clinical specialty is in Reproductive Medicine, with a foundation focusing on OB/GYN health concerns for women of all ages, I also love seeing all of your partners and kids too! I truly enjoy helping growing families who are struggling to get pregnant naturally, especially LGBT+ families who are getting creative with shared parenting methods.

And I love helping patients with challenging cases – whether that’s treating teens looking for natural solutions to painful cramps so they can avoid starting early on hormones, or calming the hormonal waves of menopause, and showing how this can be an incredibly empowering transition for women.

Simply put, there are natural solutions for the challenges of hormonal fluctuations - and women do not need to accept suffering as a normal part of the changing phases of their reproductive lives.

While women's health is a focus, I also see many patients for pain management and injury recovery. I learned first-hand the power of acupuncture for pain management when treating elite student athletes during my internship with UC Berkeley's Sports Medicine department.

Acupuncture immediately decreases pain and speeds up recovery time when integrated into care from sports injuries, auto accidents, surgery or repetitive stress syndromes. Acupuncture, along with other East Asian medicine modalities, offers drug free pain relief so we can get back to enjoying our busy, active lives.

Outside of my professional life helping people, I have a love for filmmaking, which was actually my first career. I got my start working with top animation and visual effects studios - I even had to take a quiz on Star Wars trivia for one of my jobs! So movies remain a passion, if no longer my work - I love escaping the rain in winter by sneaking off to one of Portland’s many old school theaters to catch an independent film… or any Marvel movie for a date night with my sons. Our weekends are filled with hiking and biking the PNW, foodie adventures in dining and continued studies in medical herbalism - I am totally an herb nerd!
