Molly Erickson, LAc, Acupuncturist
I first fell in love with Chinese Medicine as a patient. In my early 20s I was deeply frustrated by several years of persistently poor health and lack of well-being. Finding no relief from Western medicine, I decided to try acupuncture, and over the course of the next few years it profoundly changed my life. So much so that I decided to pursue Chinese medicine as a profession to be able to share that gift with others.
Drawn to the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the reputation of the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, I found my home in Portland, Oregon. My special interests as a practitioner include pain relief, women’s health, fertility, digestive support, preventative medicine, and helping people who just aren’t feeling their best and don’t know why.
I use all modalities of Chinese Medicine to get people back on their feet: acupuncture, Chinese herbs, dietary therapy, cupping, gua sha, electical stimulation, moxabustion and body work. Ultimately, my goal is to empower patients to take great care of themselves and cultivate more awareness around mind-body-spirit connection.
After graduating from OCOM, I continued my studies with an externship at Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China observing in local and government hospitals. I was struck by the holistic and integrative approach practiced by the doctors there (a doctor’s quick referrals to test hormone levels or get imaging on a spine to inform the strategies of formulas and acupuncture techniques) which renewed and reinforced my feeling of the importance of practicing good medicine overall, not just Chinese medicine, not just western medicine, and committing to incorporate in my practice here an approach of utilizing all diagnostic and treatment modalities available for best patient care.
I am committed to providing a safe space to all LGBTQ patients and folks of all shapes, sizes, colors, ages and health concerns.
When I’m not working with patients I love to travel, explore Oregon’s wild coastlines, hike, sing with a women’s choir, and hang with my wonderful partner, cat, and dog. If any part of my story resonates with you, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment to see if Chinese Medicine can help you feel more optimal and keep doing what you love to do!
Kate was a very calming presence during our IVF embryo transfer. She was also very professional as she clearly reviewed my information before our meeting at the clinic (not something I have experienced with other professionals during this process)
Patient Since November 2016
I can't say enough good things about Kate! After trying most everything to alleviate the pain I have from TMJ, I FINALLY tried acupuncture- not sure what took me so long! Kate made me feel comfortable, asked inquisitive questions, and continually checked on me as I lay on the table. It only took me a few moments laying there to fee relief and relaxation in the areas that have bothered me for so long. This relief continued into the following days, and I noticed positive changes in my sleep and attitude as well. I am so thankful to have found an acupuncturist that cares so much about her patients and what she does every day.
TMJ Pain Relieved
Patient Since May 2016
As an acupuncturist, I am very picky about who can treat me. I came in with head and shoulder pain, headaches and general malaise as I was fighting off a holiday cold. Kate's treatment kicked this cold to the curb! Kate was attentive with good humor as she gave me one of the best treatments that I have ever had with a combination of acupuncture and tuina. I would highly recommend her and can't wait to come back with some more tricky issues I have to work on!
